Apple bread

Apple bread is a delightful and aromatic treat that combines the sweet, tart flavor of apples with the comforting texture of homemade bread.

Ingredients
  

  • For the Bread:
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt or sour cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups peeled and diced apples about 2 medium apples
  • Optional: 1/2 cup chopped nuts walnuts or pecans or raisins
  • For the Cinnamon Sugar Topping:
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

Method
 

  1. Preheat the Oven:
  2. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour your loaf pan, or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
  3. Prepare the Dry Ingredients:
  4. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Set aside.
  5. Mix the Wet Ingredients:
  6. In a large bowl, combine granulated sugar, brown sugar, melted butter, and vegetable oil. Mix until well combined.
  7. Beat in the eggs one at a time, making sure each is fully incorporated before adding the next.
  8. Stir in the Greek yogurt (or sour cream) and vanilla extract until smooth.
  9. Combine the Mixtures:
  10. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring just until combined. Be careful not to overmix; a few lumps are okay.
  11. Fold in the diced apples and optional nuts or raisins.
  12. Transfer and Top:
  13. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan, spreading it evenly.
  14. In a small bowl, mix together the granulated sugar and cinnamon for the topping. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the batter.
  15. Bake the Bread:
  16. Bake in the preheated oven for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  17. If the top starts to brown too quickly, cover loosely with aluminum foil.
  18. Cool and Serve:
  19. Allow the bread to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  20. Slice and enjoy as is, or with a spread of butter or cream cheese.

Notes

Use firm, crisp apples like Honeycrisp, Granny Smith, or Fuji for the best texture and flavor.
