Ingredients
  

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter cold and cubed
  • 1/4 to 1/2 cup ice water
  • For the Apple Filling:
  • 8 cups apples peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • For the Crumb Topping:
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter cold and cubed
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Grease a baking sheet or line it with parchment paper.
  • Prepare the Pie Crust:
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt.
  • Cut in the cold, cubed butter using a pastry cutter or fork until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Gradually add ice water, 1 tablespoon at a time, mixing until the dough comes together.
  • Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to fit your baking sheet.
  • Transfer the dough to the prepared baking sheet, pressing it into the edges and trimming any excess.
  • Make the Apple Filling:
  • In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and vanilla extract.
  • Mix until the apples are evenly coated.
  • Spread the apple filling evenly over the prepared pie crust.
  • Prepare the Crumb Topping:
  • In a medium bowl, combine the flour, brown sugar, and cinnamon.
  • Cut in the cold, cubed butter using a pastry cutter or fork until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Sprinkle the crumb topping evenly over the apple filling.
  • Bake the Pie:
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender.
  • Remove from the oven and let the pie cool on a wire rack.
  • Serve:
  • Cut the pie into squares and serve warm or at room temperature.
  • Optionally, serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
