Banana Chocolate Chip Streusel Muffins

Banana Chocolate Chip Streusel Muffins are a delightful treat that combines the sweet, comforting flavors of ripe bananas and chocolate with a crunchy, buttery streusel topping.

Ingredients
  

  • For the Muffins:
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 large ripe bananas mashed
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 egg lightly beaten
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • For the Streusel Topping:
  • 1/3 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter cold
  • 1/3 cup chopped walnuts or pecans optional

Method
 

  1. Preheat the Oven and Prepare Muffin Tin:
  2. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  3. Grease your muffin tin or line it with paper liners.
  4. Make the Muffin Batter:
  5. In a large bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  6. In another bowl, mix the mashed bananas, sugar, egg, and melted butter.
  7. Fold the banana mixture into the flour mixture until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  8. Stir in the chocolate chips.
  9. Prepare the Streusel Topping:
  10. In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar, flour, and cinnamon.
  11. Cut in the cold butter with a fork or pastry blender until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in the nuts if using.
  12. Assemble the Muffins:
  13. Spoon the muffin batter into the prepared muffin cups, filling each about 3/4 full.
  14. Sprinkle the streusel topping evenly over the batter in each cup.
  15. Bake the Muffins:
  16. Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of a muffin comes out clean.
  17. Allow the muffins to cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Serve the muffins warm or at room temperature. They can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days or frozen for longer storage.
