- Preheat the Oven and Prepare Muffin Tin:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease your muffin tin or line it with paper liners.
- Make the Muffin Batter:
- In a large bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, mix the mashed bananas, sugar, egg, and melted butter.
- Fold the banana mixture into the flour mixture until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
- Stir in the chocolate chips.
- Prepare the Streusel Topping:
- In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar, flour, and cinnamon.
- Cut in the cold butter with a fork or pastry blender until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in the nuts if using.
- Assemble the Muffins:
- Spoon the muffin batter into the prepared muffin cups, filling each about 3/4 full.
- Sprinkle the streusel topping evenly over the batter in each cup.
- Bake the Muffins:
- Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of a muffin comes out clean.
- Allow the muffins to cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Serve the muffins warm or at room temperature. They can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days or frozen for longer storage.
