Ingredients
  

  • 2 pounds fresh asparagus trimmed and cut into 2-inch pieces
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large saucepan, bring water to a boil. Add the asparagus and cook for 2-3 minutes until bright green and tender-crisp. Drain and set aside.
  • Make the Cheese Sauce:
  • In the same saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes to form a roux.
  • Gradually whisk in the milk, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens, about 3-4 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and stir in the shredded cheddar cheese, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, salt, and pepper until smooth.
  • Assemble the Casserole:
  • In a baking dish, layer the cooked asparagus. Pour the cheese sauce evenly over the asparagus.
  • Prepare the Topping:
  • In a small bowl, mix the breadcrumbs with the melted butter until evenly coated. Sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture over the casserole.
  • Bake:
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the casserole is bubbly and the topping is golden brown.
  • Serve:
