Chocolate Chip Cookies

There's nothing quite like the smell of fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies wafting through the house.

Equipment

  • Oven
  • Baking sheets
  • Parchment paper (optional)
  • Mixing bowls
  • Electric mixer or whisk
  • Rubber spatula
  • Cookie scoop or tablespoon

Ingredients

  • 1 cup 2 sticks unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  • Preheat the Oven:
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper or lightly grease them.
  • Cream the Butter and Sugars:
  • In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
  • Add Eggs and Vanilla:
  • Beat in the eggs one at a time, making sure each is fully incorporated before adding the next.
  • Stir in the vanilla extract.
  • Combine Dry Ingredients:
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  • Mix Dry and Wet Ingredients:
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  • Fold in the chocolate chips.
  • Shape the Cookies:
  • Use a cookie scoop or tablespoon to drop rounded balls of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  • Bake the Cookies:
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown but the centers are still soft.
  • For chewier cookies, bake closer to 10 minutes; for crispier cookies, bake a little longer.

Notes

Tips:
For even baking, ensure that your cookie dough balls are roughly the same size.
If you prefer a more intense chocolate flavor, use a mix of semi-sweet and dark chocolate chips.
To keep cookies soft, store them in an airtight container with a slice of bread. The bread helps to retain moisture.
