Equipment

  • Large skillet or sauté pan
  • Tongs or spatula
  • Measuring spoons
  • Lemon zester (optional)

Ingredients

  • 1 lb large shrimp peeled and deveined (tails on or off)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3-4 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes optional, for heat
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • Fresh parsley chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  • Prep the Shrimp:
  • Pat the shrimp dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. This will help them cook evenly and avoid steaming.
  • Season the shrimp with salt, pepper, and paprika, coating them evenly.
  • Heat the Pan:
  • In a large skillet, heat the olive oil and butter over medium-high heat until the butter is melted and sizzling.
  • Sauté the Shrimp:
  • Add the shrimp to the hot skillet in a single layer, ensuring they aren’t overcrowded.
  • Cook the shrimp for 2-3 minutes on each side, until they turn pink and opaque. Be careful not to overcook them, as shrimp cook very quickly.
  • Add Garlic and Lemon:
  • In the last minute of cooking, add the minced garlic and red pepper flakes (if using) to the skillet. Stir the shrimp around to coat them in the garlic.
  • Squeeze the juice of one lemon over the shrimp and toss everything together for a bright, citrusy finish.
  • Garnish and Serve:
  • Remove the shrimp from the heat and sprinkle with freshly chopped parsley.
  • Serve immediately with rice, pasta, or as a topping for salads, and enjoy!

Notes

Fresh vs. Frozen Shrimp: If using frozen shrimp, make sure to thaw them completely and pat them dry before cooking to achieve the best texture.
Additional Flavor: For an extra burst of flavor, add a splash of white wine to the pan while cooking the shrimp or a sprinkle of lemon zest.
