Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground chicken or ground turkey
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 small onion diced
  • 3 garlic cloves minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger minced
  • 1 14 oz bag coleslaw mix (or shredded cabbage)
  • 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce or tamari for gluten-free
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce optional
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes optional
  • 2 green onions sliced for garnish
  • Sesame seeds for garnish

Equipment

  • arge skillet or wok
  • Wooden spoon or spatula
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Mixing bowl

Method

  1. Cook the Ground Meat: Heat the sesame oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground chicken or turkey, breaking it apart with a spoon, and cook until browned and fully cooked, about 5-7 minutes.
  2. Sauté the Vegetables: Add the diced onion, garlic, and ginger to the skillet. Sauté for 3-4 minutes until the onion becomes translucent and the garlic is fragrant.
  3. Add the Coleslaw Mix: Stir in the coleslaw mix or shredded cabbage, tossing everything together. Cook for another 5 minutes or until the cabbage has softened to your liking.
  4. Season the Dish: Pour in the soy sauce, rice vinegar, and hoisin sauce (if using). Stir well to combine and let it cook for another 2-3 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together. If you like some heat, add the crushed red pepper flakes at this point.
  5. Serve: Remove from heat and divide into bowls. Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds. Serve hot!
