  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 small onion finely chopped (optional)
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • For the Nachos:
  • 1 large bag tortilla chips
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese or Mexican blend
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup sliced black olives
  • 1/4 cup pickled jalapeños optional
  • 1/4 cup sliced green onions
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup guacamole
  • 1/4 cup salsa
  • Fresh cilantro chopped (optional)

Equipment

  • Large skillet
  • Baking sheet
  • Aluminum foil or parchment paper
  • Spatula
  • Knife and cutting board

Method

  1. Preheat the Oven:
  2. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a large baking sheet with aluminum foil or parchment paper.
  3. Cook the Ground Beef:
  4. In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef until fully cooked, breaking it up with a spatula as it cooks.
  5. Drain any excess grease, then add the taco seasoning, water, and minced garlic. Stir to combine and cook for another 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens and coats the beef. Set aside.
  6. Assemble the Nachos:
  7. Spread an even layer of tortilla chips on the prepared baking sheet.
  8. Spoon the seasoned ground beef over the chips, making sure to distribute it evenly.
  9. Sprinkle shredded cheddar or Mexican blend cheese generously over the beef.
  10. Bake:
  11. Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the cheese is fully melted and bubbly.
  12. Add Toppings:
  13. Once the nachos are out of the oven, start layering on the fresh toppings: shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, sliced black olives, pickled jalapeños (if using), and sliced green onions.
  14. Finish with the Final Touches:
  15. Add dollops of sour cream, guacamole, and salsa across the nachos. Garnish with fresh cilantro if desired.
  16. Serve Immediately:
  17. Serve the nachos directly from the baking sheet, or transfer them to a platter for a neater presentation.

Notes

Cheese Tip: For extra cheesy nachos, add a second layer of chips, beef, and cheese before baking.
Customization: Feel free to customize your nachos with additional toppings like refried beans, corn, or diced avocado.
