Jalapeno Cheddar Biscuits

Jalapeno Cheddar Biscuits are a savory treat that combines the heat of jalapenos with the richness of cheddar cheese.

Equipment

  • Baking sheet
  • Mixing bowls
  • Pastry cutter or forks
  • Oven

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter cubed
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1-2 jalapenos finely chopped (seeds removed for less heat)
  • 1 cup buttermilk

Instructions

  • Preheat the Oven:
  • Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Prepare the Dough:
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • Add the cold cubed butter and use a pastry cutter or forks to cut the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese and chopped jalapenos.
  • Add the Buttermilk:
  • Pour in the buttermilk and mix until just combined. Be careful not to overmix, as this can make the biscuits tough.
  • Shape the Biscuits:
  • Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead it a few times to bring it together.
  • Pat the dough out to about 1/2-inch thickness. Use a biscuit cutter or a round glass to cut out biscuits and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Bake the Biscuits:
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown and cooked through.

Notes

Serve the biscuits warm, with butter if desired.
