Jalapeno Cheddar Biscuits

Jalapeno Cheddar Biscuits are a savory treat that combines the heat of jalapenos with the richness of cheddar cheese.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter cubed
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1-2 jalapenos finely chopped (seeds removed for less heat)
  • 1 cup buttermilk

Equipment

  • Baking sheet
  • Mixing bowls
  • Pastry cutter or forks
  • Oven

Method

  1. Preheat the Oven:
  2. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  3. Prepare the Dough:
  4. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Add the cold cubed butter and use a pastry cutter or forks to cut the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  6. Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese and chopped jalapenos.
  7. Add the Buttermilk:
  8. Pour in the buttermilk and mix until just combined. Be careful not to overmix, as this can make the biscuits tough.
  9. Shape the Biscuits:
  10. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead it a few times to bring it together.
  11. Pat the dough out to about 1/2-inch thickness. Use a biscuit cutter or a round glass to cut out biscuits and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  12. Bake the Biscuits:
  13. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown and cooked through.

Notes

Serve the biscuits warm, with butter if desired.
