Method
- Preheat Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
- Mix Dry Ingredients:
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- Cut in Butter:
- Using a pastry cutter or fork, cut the cold butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- Add Milk:
- Slowly pour in the cold milk, stirring gently until the dough just comes together. Be careful not to overmix, as this will result in dense biscuits.
- Roll and Cut:
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Gently pat or roll it out to about ¾-inch thickness. Use a biscuit cutter to cut out rounds and place them on the prepared baking sheet. Gather scraps and repeat until all the dough is used.
- Bake:
- Bake the biscuits in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown.
- Brush with Butter:
- Remove the biscuits from the oven and immediately brush the tops with melted butter. Serve warm.
Notes
Cold Ingredients: Keep the butter and milk as cold as possible to create flaky layers.
Don’t Overwork the Dough: Handle the dough gently to avoid overdeveloping the gluten.
For Extra Fluffiness: Freeze the cut biscuits for 5-10 minutes before baking.
