Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes

Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes are a savory twist on the classic Sloppy Joe, combining the rich flavors of a Philly cheesesteak with the hearty, saucy goodness of a Sloppy Joe.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small onion diced
  • 1 green bell pepper diced
  • 1 cup mushrooms sliced (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 slices provolone cheese
  • 4 hamburger buns toasted

Equipment

  • Large skillet
  • Spatula or wooden spoon
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Cheese grater (if grating your own cheese)
  • Serving plates or bowls

Method

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the diced onions and bell peppers, and cook until they are softened, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. If using mushrooms, add them to the skillet and cook until they are tender.
  4. Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it up with a spatula or wooden spoon, and cook until browned and fully cooked, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat.
  5. Stir in the Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, Dijon mustard, and flour, and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until the mixture is well combined.
  6. Pour in the beef broth, reduce the heat to low, and let the mixture simmer for 5 minutes until thickened. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  7. Assemble the Sloppy Joes:
  8. Preheat your oven's broiler.
  9. Divide the beef mixture evenly among the toasted hamburger buns.
  10. Top each with a slice of provolone cheese.
  11. Place the assembled sandwiches under the broiler just until the cheese is melted and bubbly, about 1-2 minutes.
  12. Serve:
  13. Serve the Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes hot with your favorite sides, such as fries or a salad.
