Sweet and Salty Churro Bites are delightfully crispy bites that are tossed in a heavenly mixture of cinnamon and sugar with a hint of salt.

Equipment

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 large eggs
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • Directions
  • Prepare the Dough:
  • In a medium saucepan combine the water, butter, 1 tablespoon of sugar, and salt. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
  • Reduce heat to low and add the flour all at once stirring vigorously with a wooden spoon until the mixture forms a ball and pulls away from the sides of the pan. Remove from heat.
  • Allow the dough to cool for 5 minutes then add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition until the dough is smooth and glossy.
  • Pipe the Dough:
  • Transfer the dough to a piping bag fitted with a large star tip.
  • Heat the Oil:
  • In a large frying pan heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 375°F (190°C).
  • Fry the Churro Bites:
  • Pipe 1-inch lengths of dough into the hot oil using a pair of scissors to cut the dough. Fry the churro bites in batches, turning them occasionally, until they are golden brown and crispy, about 2-3 minutes per batch.
  • Remove the churro bites with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  • Coat with Cinnamon Sugar:
  • In a mixing bowl combine 1/2 cup of granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, and sea salt.
  • Toss the warm churro bites in the cinnamon-sugar mixture until well coated.
  • Serve:
  • Serve the churro bites warm and enjoy!
