  • 1/4 cup water

Instructions
 

  • Prepare the onions: Thinly slice the onions and separate them into rings. Set aside.
  • Mix the batter: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cornmeal, baking powder, salt, and pepper. Gradually add the milk and water, stirring until the batter is smooth and well combined.
  • Coat the onions: Add the sliced onions to the batter, ensuring they are well coated.
  • Heat the oil: In a frying pan or skillet, heat about 1/2 inch of vegetable oil over medium heat until it reaches about 350°F (175°C).
  • Fry the fritters: Drop spoonfuls of the onion mixture into the hot oil, flattening them slightly with the back of the spoon. Fry until golden brown and crispy on both sides, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  • Drain and serve: Remove the fritters from the oil using a slotted spoon or tongs and place them on paper towels to drain any excess oil. Serve warm.
