Equipment

  • Mixing bowls (medium and large)
  • Whisk
  • Spatula
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • 9x13-inch baking dish or pan
  • Oven mitts
  • Cooling rack

Ingredients

  • For the Cobbler:
  • 1 stick unsalted butter ½ cup or 113 g, melted
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar 300 g, divided
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour 125 g
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • Pinch of salt
  • ¾ cup milk 180 ml
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 ½ cups hot water

Instructions

  • Preheat and Prepare:
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Pour the melted butter into the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking dish, spreading it evenly.
  • Mix the Batter:
  • In a medium mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of sugar, flour, baking powder, and salt. Whisk to blend. Add the milk and vanilla extract, stirring until smooth. Pour the batter over the melted butter in the dish. Do not mix—let it spread naturally.
  • Prepare the Topping:
  • In a small bowl, mix the remaining ½ cup of sugar with the cinnamon. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the batter.
  • Add the Water:
  • Carefully pour the hot water over the entire dish. Do not stir. This will create the cobbler’s signature gooey texture as it bakes.
  • Bake:
  • Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 40–45 minutes, or until the top is golden and set. The cobbler will bubble as it cooks, creating a rich, cinnamon-sugar sauce at the bottom.
  • Cool and Serve:
  • Allow the cobbler to cool for 10 minutes. Serve warm, spooned into bowls, and top with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for the ultimate dessert experience.

Notes

Butter: Use unsalted butter for better control over the flavor. If using salted butter, omit the pinch of salt from the batter. Cinnamon-Sugar Ratio: Feel free to adjust the cinnamon-sugar topping to suit your taste preferences. Water: Ensure the water is hot (but not boiling) for the best texture. Storage: Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the microwave for 30 seconds to bring back the gooey warmth.
